An amazing afternoon was cooked up at Advanced Studies Magnet-West Ashley Middle School on Thursday, May 4th.  Baily Griffith (Media Specialist) and Michael Marsico (ELA Teacher) wanted to give their Cooking Club an authentic learning experience.  This goal was accomplished with the assistance of Executive Chef-Emily Cookson and Nutrition Specialist-Dana Mitchel (Low County Food Bank).  This amazing team packed up their food cart "Charlie", full of delicious and healthy ingredients, and made a special visit to ASM-WAMS to teach the middle school students how to create healthy turkey tacos infused with zucchini, carrots, sweet potatoes, and tomatoes.  As an appetizer, the students were treated to an engaging lesson on the different food groups and techniques for incorporating them into their daily diets.  For the main course, the students were each assigned different jobs ranging from measuring spices to grating sweet potatoes while focusing on safety, food hygiene, and health.  The students collaborated to combine their skills and ingredients to produce an amazing meal that was full of laughter and an an overall sense of accomplishment. Watch out Top Chef, the HarborCats are coming!
